Dodge and catch fish before the fish catch you. First game made in Unity, for a school assignment. Made by Nicolas.  The web export hates being in full screen, so please don't.

Controls:

Move: W/D or Arrow Keys

Catch fish: Space or Enter

Note: You have to catch the fish from the side

  • Game: Salmon Catch
  • Developer: Nicolas
  • Playtester: Jeremy
  • Date & Time: October 9th
  • Version: Final
  • Build: WebGL
  • Play Sessions: Two sessions for a cumulative 15 minutes
  • Positive: Very fun to dodge and catch the fish, and the art and animation really brought the game to life
  • Suggestions: Fish quantity scaling with time instead of score feels awkward for a score based game. It might be nice if the score per fish increased as time went on, or if the spawn rate was based on the score.
  • Major Issues: None
  • Notes: Dodging the fish and catching them beside the player made for a fun and unique experience!

This is magnificent. The salmon model is the heart of this game, and it deserves a Wikipedia article.

Also, the fact that this fish's tail isn't tapered is a great detail - it implies that this salmon was too crafty and good at jumping, and Thor never caught it by the tail.

  • Date & Time: October 6th to October 8th, 2026.
  • Version: Final
  • Build: WebGL
  • Play Sessions: Played 10 times. Each around 20 to 50 seconds
  • Positive: Very fun. Does a lot with little. Feels like a very ambitious vision that was scoped well and has nice pacing.
  • Suggestions: Make the difficulty curve less steep, add fish variation.
  • Major Issues: Surviving past a certain point almost feels impossible due to the number of fish. However, an important distinction: at the same time, when losing, the loss feels like a mistake by the player, not the game. That’s something that can make the game stronger.
  • Notes: It feels like this game almost has two different play states the player is in. Catching fish, then avoiding fish. Maybe also having a smaller amount of points added the longer you’re alive could be interesting.

The game was very fun and addictive.

  • Version: Final.
  • Build: Windows In-Browser
  • Play Sessions: 2. About 2 minutes.
  • Positive: Visuals. Clean and unique. Loved the fish design and the 2D aspect of the player character.
  • Suggestions: Varying height (and telegraphed) for High to Low fish jump arcs to vary challenge / survivability. Different fish or net types could make things even more interesting.
  • Major Issues: Eventually the fish seem so bountiful that I’m not sure if it’s possible to survive them, but it might be a skill issue on my end.
  • Notes: I appreciate the restart button.
